KANJIROBA EXPEDITION

KANJIROBA EXPEDITION

overview

Mt. Kanjiroba (6,883m / 22,582ft.), also known as Kanjirowa, is the highest peak in the Kanjiroba Himal region, a sub-range of the Himalayas in Nepal. It lies in the Dolpa District and is surrounded by several small peaks that are still unnamed and untouched by explorers. The region is known for its complexity of deep gorges and fast flowing rivers. The peaks are jagged and a long ridge connects the two summits of the Kanjiroba peaks. According to some verified sources the first successful mount Kanjirowa expedition in the Kanjiroba Himal region was made in 1961 by John Tyson in an expedition to discover the region.

The trek to the elegant peak begins at Dolpa, following long walks around the villages, along riversides and camping for the night. The peak can be clearly seen from the famous mountain, Tso Karpo Kang(6,556m) that lies in the northeastern corner of the Kanjiroba Himal region. The trek to the base camp involves crossing a bridge across the Langu river, and one needs good balance and less load of luggage to cross it safely. It is easier to climb the peak from the south face, but the climb is difficult, and trekkers need to be experience with technical climbing skills for the mount Kanjirowa Trekking in Nepal.
