Overview

Mt. Lobuje East (6,119m) also spelt Lobuche, is one of the two main peaks in the Himalayan region of Nepal. The two peaks are Lobuje East and Lobuje West, and the most preferred peak for trekking is the east peak. Lobuche Peak Climbing is descending a marked notch and climbing snow slopes to the top.

There is a long and deep ridge between the two summits, however, experienced climbers with technical skills frequently approach the west peak from the east peak with a steep drop and an added trek of a few hours. The rocky east face of the Lobuje looks incredibly attractive with a power that motivates climbers to keep going until they have reached the summit.

Location and Climbing Overview

Good acclimatization is a must before you are on your way to the Lobuche Peak in Nepal. Both of the peaks rest on the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier and form a south ridge. The Mt. Lobuje East is also known as false peak as the true summit requires climbing steep ice slopes that novices do not dare to attempt.

The Lobuche Peak climbing in Nepal offers the most ecstatic feeling of being at an altitude so high. Climbers can see the beauty of the Khumbu Glacier region closely, most climbers prefer to wait for a while at the tip just for the exquisite scenery. Laurence Nielson and Ang Gyalzen Sherpa did the first successful ascent of Lobuche Peak 25th April 1984.

The trial for Lobuche Peak is the same as that of Everest via Lukla and Namche Bazaar. The trekking route continues via Tyangboche (Tengboche) where we can also enjoy the views of Everest and Lhotse. Acclimation is also an important part during the trekking so we continue our journey towards Gorak Shep (5170m) and halt for getting used to high altitude. Kala Patthar (5545m) is the next destination in our Nepal trekking route for a classic view of Mt. Everest and the Khumbu Icefall. Everest Base Camp is only a short hike from Kala Patthar so a short visit is a benefit. We then return to Lobuche and prepare for a Lobuche Peak Climbing to High Camp (5600m).
