Everest Region

Everest Region

The Mount Everest region is second only to the Annapurna in terms of the number of trekkers visiting it annually, and it would surely be the most popular destination in the country were it not slightly more difficult to get to.

Home to the famous Sherpa people, the solu- khumbu is a paradise of unparalleled mountain splendor , boasting four of the worlds’ 14 eight- thousand meter peaks- Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse shar and Cho you—and a host of others in excess of 7000m (22967ft).

This region is arguably the jewel in Nepal’s mountain crown. Strictly speaking, the Everest region, or solu-Khumbu, is divided into three distinct districts. The southerly part is solu, with an average altitude of 3000m (9843ft), and its principal villages are junbesi and phaphlu. The fruit grown in carefully tended orchards hereabouts is superb, particularly the pears and apples. North of solu, in the valley of the dudh khosi, lies the intermediate district of pharak, and finally, at altitudes in excess of 3500m ley, which descends from the mightily Khumbhu Glacier on Everest itself. Khumbhu is bounded in the west by the Tesi Lapcha pass and the Rolwaling Himal, and in the east by Baruntse and the massive water.
